In October 2023 Burnley was selected by the government to be a recipient of £20 million of funding through the ‘Long-Term Plan for Towns’ programme.

A Town Board was assembled, and instructed to submit a Long-Term Plan on how we would utilise this funding based on local priorities, taking into account the views of local residents, businesses and the community & voluntary sector. The deadline for submission was originally 1st August 2024.

On Friday 19th July 2024, the Minister for Local Growth, Alex Norris MP, took the decision to suspend the 1 August deadline and therefore the Burnley Town Board has taken the decision to pause local activities until we receive further communication.

Once we have further updates, we will post them on this website and on our social media platforms.

Welcome to the Long Term Plan for Towns

Burnley is one of 55 towns announced by the Government to benefit from a nationwide £1.1 billion “levelling up” investment, part of a long-term plan to breathe new life into towns that have been previously overlooked and taken for granted.

Our town will be given £20 million endowment-style funds each over 10 years to invest in local people’s priorities in the key areas of:

Safety and Security

High Streets, Heritage and Regeneration

Transport and Connectivity

Putting Local People in the Driving Seat

The Town Board for Burnley’s Long-Term Plan wants to hear the views of local people on where this Government money should be spent or prioritised.

Public consultation sessions will also be staged across the area in the coming weeks, as follows:

Burnley Long Term Plan Board Members

An independent Town Board has been set up to arrange public consultation and take on board views to create Burnley’s very own long-term plan to present to the Government, including a 10-year vision and three-year investment plan.
